SHOW FOR FARMERS

As well as the usual hive of creativity at this years Newcastle Stitches and Craft Show from 16-19 August 2018, Expertise Events, the organisers of the event, will be conducting fundraising activities for the farming community of the Hunter region.

There’ll be a huge raffle of craft supplies with 100 percent of the funds raised going directly to help farmers in need. And the show will act as a Food Drop centre for the four days.

The raffle will contain craft supplies and gifts donated by exhibitors and the craft community, including a Singer sewing machine, a work light from Stitch N Stuff, a Horn sewing chair, a Brother DesignNCut, fabric packs, scissors, a subscription to Better Homes & Gardens, tickets to the Cher concert at the Entertainment Centre, lovely finished quilts, and much more. The funds raised will be used to provide hampers for farmers, care packs, and hay deliveries, with the delivery co-ordinated by the Lions Club of Belmont & District Inc.

In addition, visitors are invited to bring Food Drop supplies which will be transported to farmers in need. So far the club has delivered drops to Muswellbrook and Merriwa, and for the next drop they plan to go even further afield on the Father’s Day weekend, aiming to make it a happy weekend for farming families.

Show organisers, Gary Fitz-Roy & Judy Newman have close connections to the rural area, having seen the effect of the drought on their own property, and are keen to help the rural community directly in practical ways. “I know the Hunter district well, having owned a property at Merriwa some years ago,” Fitz-Roy says, “and the farmers out there have been doing it tough for far too long – this is an opportunity for us all to lend a hand in whatever capacity.”

The Food Drop will operate at the show for four days and visitors are invited to bring non-perishable food items such as tea, coffee, longlife milk, canned food, pasta and sauces, as well as bottled water and dog food.

They can also purchase raffle tickets and will have a chance to win some of the amazing prizes in the Craft Raffle which will be drawn at the end of the event on Sunday at 3.30pm.

The show is a much loved event in the district and will feature displays by local groups including the Novocastrian Quilters, the Newcastle Creative Embroiderers & Textile Artists, the Quake City Quilters as well as international exhibitions and guest artists specialising in weaving, cake decorating and cosplay. Independent retailers from around Australia will be selling specialist craft supplies and there’s a full program of workshops over the four days.
